    20X0 – A Journey into the Future

    The city simulator at the Heureka science center takes the visitors on a journey into a future city in 20X0. The exhibition is based on lifestyles and their sustainability. The visitors make different consumption choices with the help of an identification wristband and get feedback on the lifestyle they choose. Based on the choices, the simulator will create a personal sustainability barometer for each visitor.

    Seven Connections – Finnish Architecture Abroad

    In 2012, the program of the Museum of Finnish Architecture is part of the World Design Capital Helsinki 2012 program. The museum’s theme year begins with Seven Connections, displaying Finnish architecture abroad with the help of an exhibition and video.

  • 16.01.12 - 31.12.12 @ All around the city

    Yellow City – Illustrated Stories from Helsinki

    17 illustrators from the Napa Illustrations agency asked one Finnish author to take part in a Helsinki-related book project in which the illustrators got to illustrate the selected authors’ texts. The book will be published in January and the pictures will be displayed in the Yellow City exhibition series which will take place, for example, in the city’s libraries, Lasipalatsi and the Annantalo arts center. Free admission.

    K-G Roos – Mafia, Marimekko, Mannerheim

    As early as the 1950s photojournalist and documentary photographer Karl-Gustav Roos (1937–1976) became aware of a picture’s potential to make an impact on society. He photographed city life in Helsinki and Sicily and also took sensitive outdoor fashion photos of clothes designed by Vuokko Nurmesniemi. A majority of Roos’ rare gems are now shown in an exhibition for the first time.

    Carl Larsson – In Search of the Good Life

    Loved by one generation after another, Swedish artist Carl Larsson’s (1853–1919) home-related paintings have proved to be an inspiration behind  well-lit interior decoration over the decades. The exhibition at Ateneum focuses on themes related to the home and there are also works from Larsson’s early years, such as large watercolors he painted in France. The exhibition includes an installation by Alexander Reichstein, which turns Larsson’s small watercolors into real-size rooms.

The exhibition highlights Finnish design in films and also the lesser-known assistants behind Finnish cinematography, such as set and costume designers.

    Of Toys and Men

    Helsinki Art Museum’s major exhibition Of Toys and Men explores the relationship between play and art. The exhibition presents the history, design and aesthetics of toys from several centuries past. Some of the exhibits come from legendary toy manufacturers, such as Lego and Mattel, but there are also a number of unique items made by regular people as well as world-famous artists.
